DiamondBacks 3 - Knights 6

The Diamondbacks and Knights faced off on Sunday night for the first time in 2008 leading to a 6 to 3 victory for the Knight men. The Knights finally had their troopers in full gear for this one as they had previously lost to the Diamondbacks in their first tilt 5 to 2, so this was a redemption game and a game to prove to themselves they can outwork the D men and win. Knights got off to a 3 to 0 lead in the first half as they took it to their first place opponents by forchecking hard, winning the battles in the trenches, shooting the ball net and charging the net. Brian " sid the frickin Kid" Mcshane, Mark "i showed up for a game" Melim and Dipper "the maniac" Kaila led the way on the forcheck. These three center men were a much needed injection into the Brighouse lineup in this game. Also back from injury was Dan "no thats not a bruise" Ko who was solid on the blueline the whole game along with Kevin "Mickey" Singh, Nathan "Charlie" Brown and Mandy "they can't win without meee" Parmar. Robby "the fingerbanger" Kahle also had a solid game between the pipes. The Knights played simple and smart hockey for the most part by outworking the Diamondbacks which led to their offense and skill taking over and putting away the D men.
Clayton Weston had a goal and two assists and Mark Melim and Ryan Bhala added two goals each with Kevin Singh with the other tally.

Kings 7 - Knights 3

With both teams coming into this game with depleted lineups, the Knights came out on the short end of the stick in this one 7 to 3 which was the last game of 2007 and leading into the three week layoff. 4th string goalie Sandip Dulay made his debut on this night and for the better part of the game made the saves he needed to make until the latter half of the second period where the flood gates opened. The Knights were beat to the ball and were out battled by the young fiesty Kings all night and in the end outscored. Knights however had there chances but couldn't beat probably the best goalie in B Div Rick Baker as he stopped shot after shot highlighting a glove hand save when he robbed Ryan "atleast i sometimes HAVE a shot" Bhala in the slot on a one timer set up by Asif Lalani. Gur " Winterfest" Randhawa scored again for the Knights in this game as he went to the net after Ryan Bhala blasted one from the point and tucked in the rebound. The Tanks game has improved immensely after coming back from injury early in the year as he has started to shoot the ball more and is using his body size and driving to the net without taking penalties. Also scoring for the Knights on this night were Kulvir "Web 2.0" Kaila and Kal Sanghera who scored his first goal of the season and added an assist. Guys not showing up to games on a regular basis is going to kill us down the second half stretch of the season. Also certain individuals who are the so called "leader" of this Knights team calling out other players during the game on the bench is immature and classless. Try talking to real team leader ex.. Gur Randhawa, Asif Lalani, Clayton Weston, Rob Kahle and they will guide you in the right direction. Can't have that bullshit going on cause we're losing a game...that was the same shit we have done in the past and its got us no where in this league. I Ryan Bhala need to play much better especially improving on my in the slot one timer scoring chances. Coming back from the holidays we face off against the Diamondbacks...enough said. Anyways on a lighter note The Knights have enjoyed a good first half with a record of 8 wins, 3 losses, and 1 tie. Hopefully we pull it together and have a better 2008!
Have a Merry Winterfest and a Happy New Year to all!!!!

There should be no 3 stars on this night however to just keep it going...

Knights 3 - Panthers 2

The Knights and Panthers battled it out for the second time this year on Sunday as the season resumed after 2 weeks off. The Knights won this close hard fought game 3 - 2. Maybe the ugliest win of the year but we got the two points in the end. Gur "Rickards Red' Randhawa got the Knights off to a 1-0 lead as he elegantly redirected a nice feed from Nathan "BabyFace" Brown. The Knights then took a couple of penalty's and were shorthanded most of the first half but still managed to be up 2-0. The Panthers then made it close by scoring twice while the Knights got lazy and didn't go for the kill. Mark "Slapnuts" Melim then scored to make it 3-2 late in the second half and the Knights then had to hold on for the win as Robby "Luongo" Kahle played lights out for the rest of the game. Shaking off the rust after 2 weeks off was a factor in this game for a few players on the Knights side on this Sunday and also drinking Bacardi and cokes then switching to beers the night before didn't help either! Ryan "i was in a giving mood today " Bhala had this to say after the game, "ya ya i know... they want me to shoot the ball more... i seen Clayton open a few times and decided to pass it off to him but it didn't work out this time...if those passes resulted in goals nobody would be bitching about it!.....no worries though i'm pretty sure we'll be back to normal next week by shooting every time i get a chance." The Tank made an unexpected announcement after the game as well, as he said there will be a team Christmas party on December 23rd at Desi Junction.. I thought Gur didn't believe in Christmas as he ripped in to me for putting up a Christmas tree!!! "WE DON'T PUT UP FUCKING CHRISTMAS TREES YOU ASSHOLE," said the Tank when i told him about the beautiful little xmas tree we put up, "Just give me presents - thats it!" A BA HUMBUG to you to!

Sabres 3 - Knights 4

The Knights rolled into this game thinking they were going to steam roll the last place team the Sabres on this sunday but as it turned out in the end it was closer than expected. The Knights led by the Tank's scoring got off to a huge 4- lead in the first half of the game thinking they had things rapped up but a couple of penalties later and a couple of goals later by the Sabres made it too close for comfort for the Knights as they barely held on to get the win. In the end we got the 2 points.

Knights 5 - Generals 3

The Knights and their nemesis the Generals faced off second time this Sunday and it was a dandy of a game especially for the Knights who finally defeated their hated rivals 5-3. The Knights came into this game on a 1 game losing skid and looked to bounce back versus the dirtiest cheapest most classless team in the league the Generals (because of a few select players only). It was a very physical hard fought game by both squads but the more talented team came through with a victory on this night. The Knights not only battled the Generals but also had to battle and cope with the referrees throughout the game. Ryan Bhala, Mark Melim, Clayton Weston, Mandy Parmar and Ho Dan Ko had the markers for the nights while goaltender Rob Kahle played a stellar game in betweem the pipes. Knights also had 2 goals disallowed which were clearly in but the refs were out of position to make the right call. The 2nd and 3rd lines for the Knights played exceptionally well as they battled the other teams defence and created alot of scoring chances for themselves. Gur "Tank" Randhawa lost it on the referees in the second half as his stick was snatched away from him (3rd time) resulting in no call and subsequently Randhawa's rant on the referee as the play went on up the floor. Gur put his arms out in the air and let the ref's know what time it was..."WHAT THE F*$*% REF WHERE'S MY F*^&$ STICK...WHERES THE F*#$%ING CALL...THATS F&#*$KIN BULLSHIT". Luckily the Tank found his 6' stick and rejoined the play. The Knights were short benched for this game as Asif "I'll be back" Lalani, Nathan "I'll be there every second game" Brown and Dave "Who knows where the hell he is" Fedorko were missing for this matchup.
The top line Weston, Melim and Bhala combined for 3 of the goals and 7 points on the night while twinkle toes Parmar and Ho Dan Ko provided much needed scoring from the back end. We showed excellent team effort and heart in this game, we wanted this game more than they did and it showed on the floor. Alot of chirping done by both teams and at the referrees but in the end we kept our composure and walked away with a victory. This was worse refereed game that I've been associated with. A special thanks goes out to Kevin Singh and his wife Kathleen Singh as they had a beautiful healthy baby girl which they named "Kiara" on saturday and Keving "Hockey slut" Singh showed up to play on Sunday...that's awesome bro!!! --Posted by Bhala

Knights 2 - DiamondBacks 5

This Sunday's matchup brought the two top teams in B Div. Arenex League to a head. With both teams having their full rosters in the lineup this looked to be a dandy of a game. The DBacks scored first with a shot from the slot as they worked the ball around and got the shot off to go up 1-0. The Knights had to battle hard to score in this game as the Diamondbacks kept collapsing around their net time after time giving the Knights forwards no room in front of the goalie to score. Knights did tie a short while later as Ryan Bhala got a nice feed from Clayton Weston and then tallied his 7th goal of the year, tying his last years total in goals eight games into this season. Then before the half, Kevin Singh trying to take a pass along the boards got his stick caught in the boards turning over the ball to the Diamondbacks who broke in on a two on one and scored to make it 2 - 1 before the 1st half buzzer. The second half was not so kind to the Knights on this night as the DBacks took advantage of the Brighouse turnovers and scored 3 more times. Weston notched his 11th goal of the campaign but it was too little too late as the D-Backs took the first round victory 5 - 2. Our third line played an excellent game by going hard to net creating chances and battling hard in the offensive end. Tank Randhawa had a few chances in front of the net but could not put it by the D-Backs goalie as the top of Gurs stick hit the roof of Arenex everytime he wound up! The D-Backs played a patient and simple game as they did alot of dumping and chasing and waited for us to turn the ball over and then they made us pay by scoring on their chances. We couldn't score on our chances and didn't SHOOT the ball enough in this game....especially the D-men. Take that wrist shot... get the ball on net and anything can happen.. we have to keep it simple in games like this. In the end we got outworked by the Diamondback team as they wanted this game more than we did. Controversy started to swirl around the Knights team after the game as the line of Sanghera, Lalani, and Kaila was not clicking on all cylinders and will be broken up causing the other lines to separate. Overall we're at 5 wins, 2 losses, and 1 tie... not too bad lets not panic...next game next sunday versus the our nemesis the Generals at 6:45 p.m..

Knights 5 - Kings 2

The Knights came into this game with an impressive 4-1-1 record and surprisingly with their regular full roster minus Mark 'ooooh my nuts Melim. The Kings lineup supported by a young, feisty group was looking to upset the first place Knights on this Friday night but fell short as the Knights played one of their most complete games of the year. It was a penalty filled affair as the Kings scored both of their goals on the powerplay and the Knights scored 4 out of 5 goals on their powerplay. The top two lines for the Knights led the way offensively as Brian' Sid the frickin Kid' Mcshane started things off by jamming in a rebound past Kings goalie Rick Baker. Nathan 'Ill show up to every other game' Brown also got one in close as he pinched in from the point and buried it after a couple of wacks at the ball. Kulvir 'i'm finding my role' Kaila scored on a beauty set up by Asif 'Koivu' Lalani on the powerplay and then a couple of powerplays later Ryan Bhala netted his 6th goal of the year on a similiar play on a set up by Clayton 'the machine' Weston. Weston also scored one on a nice pass by Ryan 'i gotta hit the net' Bhala. The line of the Tank Randhawa, Dipper' Don't Fuck with Me' Kaila and Bindi 'All in' Auluk were an intimidating force to be reconed with as they played hard and had an excellent game shutting down the other teams top lines. Kal 'injury prone' Sanghera also had a decent game playing the shut down centerman and also had some good scoring chances as he and Lalani, known as the two magicians, were paired up for most of the game. Kevin 'mickey of crown' Singh played well on defence again as he has elevated his gameplay for the last few games as did Dave Federko who was solid and Mandy' don't call me a fat pig' Parmar, who missed the last game because he benched himself for having a terrible game the game before, had a better performance this game. Rob Kahle made big save after big save as he robbed the kings best forward as he was deked, Kahle stuck out his glove and made a Luongo like save to keep the Knights ahead and secure the 5 to 2 victory putting the Knights record at 5-1-1 for 1st place in the Arenex B Div. A lot of good things came out of this game as we improved on our power play by working the ball down low and using the other winger coming in high in the slot for the shot ... still could be better as we have to brush up on a couple of things still ... but if we keep getting out the same players and keep getting consistent good play out of EVERY player we should be a difficult team to beat. Everyone is finding their role on this team. We have a chance this year to potentially go all the way so lets not fuck it up!! Also the chatter on the bench has been positive on the most part and the yelling at each other has been kept to a minimum so thats another plus. We have to stay out of the penalty box GUR!!! But at the same time play aggressively and fore check the other teams defense hard. Next game should be the toughest one so far for us as the top two teams battle next Sunday night. The diamondbacks are a tough physical team that have good goal tending and could score goals if given the chance. Overall this was a scrappy game with Kings taking 36 minutes and Knights 32 minutes in penalties. Both teams had 2 players each involved in scraps resulting in game misconducts. Knights won both scraps :)

Panthers 4 - Knights 6

Knights started slow again in the first half going down 2 nothing early but managed to tie it 3-3 by the half with goals coming on the power play. Knights turned it around in the 2nd half after a good pep talk by Kulvir/Gur during half-time. Team to the Tanks surprise actually kept quiet on the bench and executed controlling the game by pinning Panthers in their own end till the end. Knights tired out the veteran Panther team who just couldn't keep up. Knights outscored Panthers 3-1 in the second half pulling out a big win.

Knights were missing Asif, Dipper, Kal, Mandy and Nathan for this game. Call ups were Brian "McFeisty" Mcshane and Harvir "Junior Knight" Sidhu.

Pirates 5 - Knights 5

This was a sloppy game all around by the Knights who faced off against a 6 man speedy Pirate team with an exceptional goalie. Knights were chasing the Pirates most of the first half and could not get any rhythm or consistency in their play. The second half being down Knights made another successful comeback to take it to overtime where the game ended in a draw.

Pirates scored 3 PP goals 2 of them on costly but questionable penalties taken by the Tank. They then scored 2 goals because of sloppy team defense. Knights were down 4-2 at the half and scored 3 goals latter part of the second half to take it to overtime.
Bal "I'm at only 67.4%" Mattu scored 2 timely goals keeping the Knights in the game. The Tank who sat himself out as punishment for the first 2 penalties exploded in the latter part of the 2nd half when needed. The Tank who returned to the lineup after a 4 game absence due to a serious tear of ligaments in right ankle led the charge and scored a key goal to bring the Knights to 5-4 with 6 minutes to play. The Tank intercepted a pass in the neutral zone, then skillfully weaved his way through 2 Pirates unleashing a hard wrist shot which beat Pirate goalie short side down low. With the Pirates now on their heals on the PP Asif "Koivu" Lalani tied the game at 5 a piece with a scrum in front of the Pirates net. Mandy "Twinkle Toes" Parmar had a tough game on defense but kept his spirits up by the Tanks post game pep talk quoted "Tera butha kidha da buniya see bench tey? Week 3 Double Header: Knights 6 - Giants 5

The game started out with a shot from the right point beating Robbie down low. Ryan Bhala then deked the goalie down low to even up the score. Giants and Knights then exchanged goals both shots from the point. Giants then took a 4 minute slashing penalty and Knights scored 2 goals taking the lead into the half 3-2. In the second half Giants tied it up right away with another shot from the point. The Giants then on the PP took the lead 5-3. Knights were down by 2 goals late in the second half and Giants with all the momentum. Clayton Weston beat Giants goalie up high with 3 minutes left. Kevin Singh then had his best shift taking the ball at the point moving laterally put a shot past Giants goalie 5 hole who was coming across the crease to face the shot. With the game tied at 2 minutes left, the winning goal came with :22 seconds left in the game coming on a nice feed from Asif "Koivu" Lalani to Sean Phair beating Giants goal high glove side. This was a battle from start to finish in show of skill, speed and some nice ball movement. The Knights showed alot of character and composure in this game.

Special note, Gur's nephew Inderbir "Kamikazee" Hundal played an outstanding game giving the Knights excellent back checking, hustle and speed down the right side. This was Inder's 1st league game, being 20 yrs of age he will only get better going forward.

Week 3 Double Header: Giants 2 - Knights 4

The speedy Giants started the game strong moving the ball well deep inside Knights zone. After a few initial saves by Robby Knights picked up their game and Ryan Bhala opened the scoring with a wicked shot top corner from a feed from the Clayton "The Machine" Weston. The score being 2-2 late in the 1st half, with just a second left Kal made a perfect pass to Bindy "All in" Aulukh who nicely beat the Giants netminder glove side giving knights the lead going into the second half. The second half Knights got their legs going and controlled most of the play scoring another one to close out the game. This was a fast paced back and forth game, both goalies played outstanding. Kal Sanghera was a force in this game distributing the ball very well and making key plays.

Week 2: Sabres 3 - Knights 5

Knights started this game without 5 of their regular star players specifically Gur, Asif, Dipper, Kal, Bindy/Gary. We were outplayed today by the speedy and skilled Sabre team. Knights top line Clayton, Mark and Ryan combined for 10 points scoring all 5 goals. Knights took the lead despite being outplayed. Sabres tied it up minutes later by crashing the net and picking up a loose ball. Mark then deked the goalie to put the Knights up 2-1. Sabres again tied it with a shot from the left side beating Robbie 5 hole. In the second half Clayton got a brutal high stick in the face and was cut deeply, Sabres player Reggie Gill was ejected from the game and Knights had a 10 minute PP. Clayton returned late in the powerplay and scored another beauty top corner. Clayton ended up with 3 goals and 2 assists. Nathan Brown made his debut this game with 3 helpers and moved the ball very well back on D. Ryan Bhala had an excellent game as well, he was a force on the right side controlling the ball and making plays.

On the downside the other 2 lines (mostly spares) were non-existent and were luckily bailed out by the top line. Moving up the spare list was speedy 18 yr old Harvir Sidhu who controlled the ball on the left side single handedly beating Sabres left right and center. He was hard to knock of the ball and played brilliantly with 5 shots on net. He will only get better playing with the big boys.

Semi-Final Game 2: Knights 3 - Generals 5

Bhala send me the writeup. gur4ever@hotmail.com

Captain's Last Word

We had a decent 2006/2007 season and have improved overall from last year. There was a good mix of guys on this team this year and it was fun competing with you guys. Competing against higher calibre opponents including A Div this year has provided some good experience for the Knights and a good sense of where this team stacks up against A and B Div teams.

We will continue to improve this team for next season which starts in 6 months again. In the meantime the core guys need to improve their conditioning and continue to play ball hockey and get better. We will be getting Richmond Thursday night hockey started in a few weeks. More details to come.

MVP of the season - Rob "How did that go in" Kahle

Good job Rob. I propose we all pitch in $5 and get Rob a trophy for MVP. We can include this in league fees next year and get one.

Cheers

Semi-Final Game 1: General 5 - Knights 3

Knights took an early costly 5 minute major high sticking penalty losing Clayton "The Machine" Weston and getting scored on to make it 1-0. Generals then mid-way through 1st half scored on a defensive mistake making it 2-0. The forechecking Generals then scored early in the 3rd half to make it 3-0. Knights then made a come-back to make it 3-2 however Generals scored on a power play and on another turnover to make it 5-2. Knights added a late goal but too little too late.

Overall losing top scorer Clayton and special teams struggling Knights could not overcome the early deficit. Game 3 goes on Sunday and should be a dandy. Go Knights Go!!!

This game was as ugly as Gary Bal's rash infection on his leg!...The generals in this game scored ugly goal after ugly goal taunting goaltender Rob "cloutier" Kahle the whole way. The knights took penalty after penalty while they taunted the refs and each other the whole way. Clayton "i am the man" Weston and Asif "give me that crown" Lalani led the way for the Knights in the scoring department while Kevin "cuban" Singh and Gur "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING BHALA!" Randhawa chipped in. A very dissapointing loss against the team that we will face in the first round of the playoffs. Too much yelling at each other from and on the bench....everyone knows how to play the game so shut up and go play like a real team...playing like this will result in a first round sweep by the generals. Its simple we have to keep it simple and go out and play our game... if we can do that we WILL win! Chiefs vs Knights on Sunday at 3:00 pm....be there at 2:30pm.

Panthers 4 - Knights 2

Another sluggish game for the Knights lead to another tough loss against the Panthers this afternoon, a team that they should have put away. It was more of a friendly affair than an intense game that the Knights like to play and that obviously lead to their loss. The Knights managed to stay out of the penalty box most of the game which was a good thing but couldn't get any offensive attack going througout the game. Sukh "i like wearing my pants" Dosanjh and Gary "atleast I scored" Bal scored the goals for the Knights. Not scoring again was Ryan "i cant buy a goal" Bhala who has been in a goal slump thats lasted an ice age and he had this to say after the game...."there's no excuse for me not scoring...we're the least scoring team in the whole f***ing league... i mean no one on our team is scoring we have to start burying our chances and hitting the net on our shots. We have to start playing like a team like we were at the start of the year....we are not that good of a team if you think about it..just look at our record since we started playing the A teams... we have to start playing together like a unit and winning those BIG games that we can't seem to win....every game in the playoffs is going to be huge we have to come through." After this rant R. Bhala stormed out of the dressing room and left the building. Gur "the tank" Randhawa then calmed everybody down and booked a team building party thats penciled in for the 24th of February.

DiamondBacks 1 - Knights 4

The Knights came into this game with only a 4 point lead on the Dbacks making this a big game for both teams. The Knights started this game a little sluggish as the two week layoff showed in the first half but managed to take a 1-0 lead for the first half as Clayton "The Machine" Weston scored a beauty as he deked out the goalie and put it in the back of the net. As usual there was some new faces in the Knights lineup as call ups Kevin "Hatrick" Wong and Dipper "I'll rip your head off" Kaila were inserted and both made a huge impact in this game. Kevin "Don't call me Richard Park" Wong scored a hatrick and Dipper " The bulldozer" Kaila added some much needed grit into the lineup. Missing were Kevin "Cuban" Singh, Asif "Koivu" Lalani and Dave "The babysitter" Fedorko. In the second half the Knights came out with more determination as the vintage cheer "HUSSLE" inspired them to a convincing 4-1 victory over the Dbacks. The game got ugly near the end of the game as Mandy"Heavy D" Parmar was drilled from behind head first by that lowlife #44 of the Dbacks. This cheapshot lead to some more infractions as Ryan "I got an assist" Bhala got punched in the head by another fat pig and then got tossed from the game for absolute no reason...go figure. Notable mentions Gur "The Beast" Randhawa got his usual 2 penalties but played outstanding on defense and lead by example in this game. Overall the Knights could have and have to play better down the stretch run as 3 games remain before the playoffs.

Knights 4 - NWO 7

The Brighouse Knights came into this game trying to snap out of a six game losing streak as they took the lead for a short while in the first half and controlled the play for the most part. The Nwo came back and took the lead for good into the second half as the Knights ran into penalty trouble once again and were down 5-3. Knights then had a powerplay opportunity to get within one but couldn't capatalize on their chances... right after the powerplay was over a long shot from the opponets goal line beat a stunned Rob " did that go in" Kahle thus deflating the Knights and ruining any hopes for a comeback. The Knights then rolled the lines for the last 5 minutes of the game as the Nwo added an insurance marker and the end of the game to make it a 7-4 final. "you can't roll 3 lines when you're down by two goals with 5 minutes left in the game", said Kevin Singh," thats f***in ridiculous, you have to put your top guys out there to have a chance toget back in the game." "We played a lot better today than we did last game but thats still not good enough, we have to play better as a team like we were at the start of the season."
Bindi"no my last name ain' t Johal" Aulukh scored a big goal with a great effort from his whole line and the newly acquired center Shawn Phair looked good with Weston and White as his wingers. Next game goes in two weeks on a Friday nite as the Knights and the Diamondbacks who are also getting desperate lock horns.

Revolution 6 - Knights 3

Short benched Revolution scored first on a shot from the point 2 minutes in. Knights then scored twice led by Asif to take the lead. Revolution got a lucky bounce as Jim White scored in his own net. Team in yellow and blue then took the lead on the powerplay.

Knights second half came out all over the Revolution but could not fill the net. Gur "The Tank" Randhawa had a breakway on a gorgeous pass from Gary Ball but could not beat goalie and continue's his goal scoring drought. With 4 minutes left down 2 goals Knights got a powerplay but could not finish. Knights went 0-6 vs A Division opponents and will start B Division round next week.

On the injury front Gary Bal popped his hamstring and is expected to miss 1-2 weeks. Knights management has signed 2 free agents to add more grit and speed Mandeep Kaila and Sean Phair.

Hawks 6 - Knights 1

Knights lost this one on special teams. Hawks went 5 for 6 on the powerplay while Knights went 0 for 1. Knights had made it close as 3-1 in the second half but costly penalties by Kevin Singh and Jim White wiped out any hopes of a comeback. The goal came on a long shot from Kevin "I'm an Allstar" Singh hitting the back board and going on off goalies own stick. Gary Bal made some offensive comments about Hawks jersey which brought numerous scuffles and resulted in Knights sitting the Penalty Box for most of the second half. All in all this was a good experience building game for players that have never played the elite A div teams. There was good effort again this game but going forward Knights will need to support each other on the floor for the entire game to be successful and make the playoffs.
